4 Fall Cocktails To Learn How To Make This Autumn

When you think about cocktails, what’s the first season that comes to mind? If you’re a tequila lover, you may think of summer, lounging on a beach, enjoying a margarita, and listening to the sound of the waves crashing on the shore.

As a fan of gin cocktails, perhaps your first thought is of spring. The floral and pine notes of gin are a great compliment to citrus juices like lemon and lime. Together, they create a light and bright punch of refreshing spring energy.

Or maybe if you’re a whiskey sipper, your mind jumps straight to winter. A hot toddy can warm you up by the fire and a classic old-fashioned can provide the spicy warmth that you love.

While all the seasons have their cocktails of choice, autumn has a particularly special line-up of signature sippers. So, we got to work crafting some recipes that anyone will love when the leaves start to change color and the weather starts to cool.

Here are four fall cocktails that you should learn how to make this Autumn!

1. Haus-Inspired Sangria

A fall sangria is a classic cocktail that is great for Halloween parties with large groups. It’s easy to make in a big batch and beloved by all! Sangria is a cocktail punch flavored with fruits and juices, making it sweet, fruity, and oh-so-boozy.

To take things an extra step further than your typical sangria, add a Haus-inspired twist for even stronger fall vibes. When you serve this at your next fall bash, don’t be surprised when you don’t have any leftovers!

Ingredients:

  • 1apple, cored and cut into pieces
  • 1 medium orange (peel on, seeds removed, and sliced into pieces)
  • 3-4 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • ¾ cup of orange juice
  • ½ cup of lemon juice
  • 12.5 ounces or ½ a bottle of Spanish red wine
  • 6 ounces of Haus New Fashioned Apéritif
  • 6 ounces of Haus Spiced Cherry Apéritif
  • 1 cup of ice

In a large bowl or pitcher, combine your orange and apple slices with your brown sugar. Muddle the mixture with a wooden spoon or muddler for about a minute. Then, add 6 ounces of both the Haus New Fashioned Apéritif and the Haus Spiced Cherry Apéritif, and muddle it again.

Pour in your wine, stir to combine, and finish off with some ice. The best part? That large bowl or pitcher is perfect for serving your guests! Make sure each glass has a few pieces of fruit as well for additional fruit flavor.

Our Haus-inspired Sangria is the perfect fall drink, giving you a bright and punchy apéritif-based sangria. If you make this sangria for your friends this fall, we guarantee they’ll be asking you to make it all year long.

2. Haus Hot Buttered Rum

Our next cocktail is another Haus twist on a fall classic: buttered rum. Buttered rum is pretty much exactly what it sounds like — rum that has butter added to it! Don’t worry, it’s not just a stick of butter plopped in some rum. It's a mixture of butter, brown sugar, and spices that makes one of the best fall cocktails

Hot buttered rum has been a classic in the United States since the colonists began consuming rum in the 1650s. Hot buttered rum popped up during the same time period that eggnog and Hot Toddy’s came into fashion, but hot buttered rum isn’t quite as popular anymore. We can’t imagine why — it’s just as delicious today as it was back when the Pilgrims drank it!

Butter Mixture Ingredients:

  • 6 tablespoons of salted butter
  • 3 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon of nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon of allspice or pumpkin pie spice

Drink Ingredients:

Start by making your butter mixture ahead of time. Leave the butter at room temperature for several minutes to soften. Then, take your softened salted butter and mix in your brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice (or pumpkin pie spice) with a spatula into a bowl. Continue to stir until well incorporated, then chill in your fridge until it's ready to use.

When you’re ready to make your drink, start by boiling enough water for everyone (about six ounces per serving). Place your butter mixture in each glass and pour your boiling water over it. Add the rum and Haus New Fashioned Apéritif, then stir until well combined and enjoy. This recipe makes four servings, so be prepared to double (or triple!) it when your friends fall head over heels with your new signature drink.

Hot buttered rum is a rich and delicious beverage that has everything you could want in a fall cocktail. The flavors of the Haus New Fashioned Apéritif with its nutmeg, ginger, and cinnamon stick flavors shine through to round out this delicious beverage.

Hot buttered rum is the perfect alternative to a chilly White Russian or spiking your hot chocolate with Irish cream when the weather gets cold and you want a nightcap that will warm you up from head to toe.

3. Strawberry Basil Moscow Mule

While a Moscow mule might not offer the same warming qualities as a hot apple cider or latte, the spicy ginger and lime flavors are just right for autumn. Why not bring a little brightness to the darker days with a strawberry and basil twist on the original Moscow mule?

With the simple addition of our Haus Strawberry Basil, you can bring the fresh flavors of spring with you into the fall whenever you want. Our Oregon-grown strawberries bring a candy sweetness, complemented by the fresh herbal power of five varieties of basil. Finally, it’s tempered with a touch of Jasmine pearl tea for a warm, honey sweetness.

This apéritif may be our summer special, but it can add to any brunch recipe when fall comes back around.

Ingredients:

  • 1½ ounces of vodka
  • 1 ounce of Haus Strawberry Basil Apéritif
  • 1 ounce of lime juice
  • Ginger beer (as needed)
  • Ice
  • Copper mug

Fill a copper mug with crushed or cracked ice. Then, squeeze your fresh lime juice into the mug. Pour in your vodka and strawberry basil apéritif. Give it a little stir to mix, and then fill it to the top with your ginger beer. You can serve with a straw or stirrer for optional stirring (and a little find). You may also want to garnish each mug with a festive lime slice.

The freshness of the strawberry and basil sharply contrasts the spicy power of the ginger, giving you the ultimate bright fall drink.

4. Haus Old Fashioned

Finally, we’ve got a classic twist on the Old Fashioned, whose dark, oak, and vanilla flavors have always reminded us of fall weather. To amp up the fall feels, we gave this classic bourbon cocktail a Haus twist. We’re sure you’ll be thinking of pecan pie, pumpkin spice, and mulled cider nights in no time.

Our Haus New Fashioned Apéritif is the only additional ingredient that you need to brighten things a touch and bring additional flavors for an autumn-spiced cocktail.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ ounces of bourbon or rye whiskey
  • ½ ounce of Haus New Fashioned Apéritif
  • 1 spoonful of simple syrup or maple syrup
  • Orange and/or Angostura bitters

In a rocks glass with one large ice cube, combine your whiskey, Haus New Fashioned Apéritif, and simple syrup. Add three dashes of each type of bitters. You can even express the oils of an orange peel over the glass as a garnish before you serve!

The New Fashioned Apéritif adds both sage and clove to the party of flavors along with cinnamon for a fall cocktail reminiscent of apple pie or caramel apples.
